Radcliffe Ave Kitchen Remodel
CLIENT OBJECTIVES:
- Create a more open floor plan by removing load bearing walls, and dropped soffit to open the kitchen up to the den and allow for better work flow
- Repair faulty wood floors from a previous renovation and bring all the hardwoods down to one level
- Maintain a formal dining room and foyer
- Create a large island with seating for at least four
- Improve pantry storage
- Include professional appliances: 36” range, integrated refrigerator and dishwasher, integrated beverage center, additional wall oven and microwave and a cabinet style hood
CHALLENGES:
- In order to create the open floor plan the clients desired, two large steel beams had to be welded on site to support the second floor above.
- We reframed a portion of the existing floor system to create a smooth transition from a basement foundation to an old porch slab foundation.
- Create a traditionally styled kitchen in keeping with the era of the home, featuring modern amenities such as professional grade appliances and ample storage necessary for a modern family
- We relocated a major HVAC return and utilized custom cabinetry to build a tall pantry underneath the stairs, with a hidden clip to accommodate the stair structure above
- Maintain a formal foyer, while eliminating most of the walls
DESIGN ELEMENTS:
- Traditional, inset cabinetry to keep with the style of the home, painted in Benjamin Moore's OC-9, Ballet White at 75%
- Elegant, quartzite counters with fully integrated bar backsplash
- Polished nickel hardware and faucets and brushed brass pendants
- Dimmable LED lighting throughout
- Formal, dark walnut stained floors to offer contrast against the cream cabinetry, walls and trim
