Buckskin Kitchen Refresh
This kitchen island remodel in Wichita, Kansas refreshed the heart of the kitchen with a larger, more functional custom island, updated lighting, refinished hardwood flooring, and a bold Inky Blue cabinet finish.
Wichita Home Works’ in-house design team helped plan the island layout, storage features, finish selections, seating overhang, lighting updates, and overall design direction so the new island would feel intentional, practical, and connected to the existing kitchen.
The project included removing the original island, updating the electrical layout, adding three matte black pendant lights, patching and repainting the ceiling, and installing new paint-grade island cabinetry. The new island features raised panel doors, roll-out trays, a trash pull-out, drawer storage, custom support legs, a built-in bookshelf on the end, and detailed base trim around the lower perimeter.
The island was finished in Sherwin Williams Inky Blue, creating a strong focal point against the surrounding wood tones. A Stratus Calcatta Zenith quartz countertop with a half-moon edge profile added brightness, durability, and seating space at the overhang.
To complete the refresh, Wichita Home Works refinished the existing hardwood flooring in the kitchen and entryway, installed satin nickel cabinet pulls, completed ceiling paint work, and handled final touch-ups. The result is a transitional kitchen update that improves storage, seating, lighting, and everyday function while keeping the warmth and character of the original home.
