Chappaqua Cape Transformation
The renovation to this 1950s Chappaqua cape nearly doubled the size of the original house. The clients wanted modern amenities that integrated seamlessly with the character of the older house; the challenge was that the left, newer side of the home would have dwarfed the existing structure. Dan Contelmo addressed this concern by designing an extension to the existing house roof toward the rear and new living space beneath to balance the two wings. Simple lines and a sweeping roof over a new front porch revived the cape, giving the home a new identity with its soaring roofs and gable detailing.
