Sweeping Entry
The owners of this house founded a space that suited their needs, but wanted to add character and personality to the bland, existing exterior. Without altering too much of the space inside the house, we wanted to add depth and dimension to the façade while staying within an efficient budget. The front porch was enlarged and covered with a pitched roof. The existing bump out over the front stoop was extended into a sweeping roofline that blends into the porch roof. The asymmetry adds a touch of whimsy to the front elevation. The pitch of the roof over the bump out was increased to exaggerate the entry to the home. A bay window was added to the living room to give depth and variety to the front of the house, with minimal increase to the square footage. A two-story box bay was built on the front of the garage. Though this did not impact the garage plan, the new roof greatly improved the head height in the existing attic closet on the second floor.
