Man Barn - Award Winner

This renovated structure won the 2016 Platinum "American Living" award from the National Builders Association, a 2015 Master Design award from Qualified Remodeler , and it's kids space won the "Kidtastic" category in the 2015 HGTV.COM design contest.
The entire exterior of this 100 year old barn received new board and batten wood siding, with a seamed metal roof. The center gables on each side have new cedar shingle siding and brackets to accentuate their significance.
The existing barn desperately needed structural repairs, but it received much more. A two-story addition more than doubled the size of the original, which homes vehicles on the ground level. The second level has been updated with a bathroom and dual bunkbeds.
The addition houses a kitchen and bath - which serve the pool area, and the ultimate home gymnasium. The upper level (separated from the existing by sliding barn doors) has a home theater area, bar area, and the center game room with Camaro pool table.

A dormer with a window seat allows a little more room for sitting without too much disruption to the original barn structure. Much of the wood used for finishes was reclaimed. Old beams were removed and re-installed.

Viewed from the top bunk, the entire playroom can be seen.

The top bunks are twin beds that fit with just enough head room under the sloped ceiling. The location of the bunk beds was carefully chosen to allow for headroom and access to an electrical panel behind the beds.

The bottom two beds are full sized with storage to the left and a bead-board ceiling finish. The sliding barn doors fit snugly behind the bunk-bed structure when the doors are opened.
