The homeowners of a ranch-style cottage needed multiple bedrooms and an additional garage bay added to their home; however, they wanted to ensure that they would not lose the quaintness of the house and the character of a small and personal cottage. Daniel Contelmo was guided by the original proportions of the living room in breaking down the remaining new wall elevations so as not to dwarf the structure with one new large room. A new front porch established a more formal entry, and a lanthorn was designed to allow light into the second floor.
