The homeowners are avid stargazers and desired an observatory from which to peruse the heavens. The structure of this unusual building presented a unique challenge to Dan Contelmo. The observatory required an octagonal base that would support a round dome. In addition, it needed to be stabilized by a concrete pier embedded in the ground, which would not absorb vibrations. Below the stargazing room, custom office space adjoins a new family room, allowing the homeowners easy access to their hobby.
