The client owned an existing one-story home on pilings directly on the Delaware Bay near Lewes, DE. The existing building was intended to be renovated by adding a second floor. During demolition of the first floor, it was determined that the pilings and lower structure were in poor condition. To keep within environmental codes, the house was rebuilt from the ground up, allowing the residence to occupy the area behind the first dune.
A 3,000 square foot year-round residence was designed with major living areas on the second and third floors to take advantage of the 180-degree views. A circular gazebo was created on a two-story porch. The living areas have subtle arches that frame the views to the water.
