This basement had good bones…great space, moisture-free, warm, but it lacked a defined purpose and the aged interior finishing had to go. Furthermore, the adjacent laundry room was crammed with storage and the maze of exposed plumbing pipes was a bit overwhelming.
We gutted the entire basement living area to framing and opened one wall to create a second access to the laundry room. Drywall was installed on all walls, ceilings, closets and staircase; a focal point was created with one wall decorated in cultured stone. Laminate flooring was installed, all doors and trims were replaced with modern profiles and abundant pot lights made the room bright and inviting. The staircase was remodeled with new oak treads and railings and the upper landing was re constructed to increase headroom. What a difference!
This space is now ready to be furnished as a TV/ hangout area. The fold away Murphy bed takes care of guests without taking up any space.
The laundry room was also transformed into a clean, bright work space with pot lights throughout. Plumbing was upgraded and the water tank was partitioned behind a new door. The entire room was drywalled including those unsightly pipes and the drain stack. The grey ceramic tiles were carried over to the powder room which received a face lift with a new toilet and a new open shelf vanity.
