Kitchen Remodel- Craftsman Style- NDG
To match the period look of their 100 year old NDG home our clients looked to the turn of the 20th century Arts and Crafts period for inspiration for their kitchen renovation.
Embracing natural beauty and traditional craftsmanship, the Craftsman look, as it is often called, is associated with handcrafted, clean-lined furniture, simple trims, “autumn” palettes, earthenware, metal works and stained glass.
With the help of our trusted cabinet supplier and our clients' interior designer we delivered a timeless kitchen that evoked the look of that period while still providing a kitchen that fitted with their lifestyle needs.
The walls were stripped to framing and a dormant chimney was removed from the east wall to allow for more counter and cabinet space. The exterior walls were insulated with eco friendly foam insulation; no more cold kitchen in the winter months and this part of the work is eligible for the Quebec Reno Vert tax credit. A heated flooring system for ceramic was installed for more warmth and comfort.
Oak cabinetry with Shaker doors was extended to the ceiling, oak and Shaker being the wood and style associated with this period. The cabinets were stained in a cherry tone, to match door trims in adjacent spaces and the pattern in the granite counter top. Glass inserts and lighting were placed in four upper panels; two panels of stained glass from our client’s collection were inserted in the cabinets flanking the kitchen window which already featured a hanging stained glass panel, enhancing the focal point for this kitchen.
Metal works as seen in the hand-crafted hammered copper sink, the copper tile accents in the back splash and the oil-bronzed cabinet pulls, sink faucet and pendant compliment the wood tones. Ceramic floor tiles in copper tones complete the Arts and Crafts metal works theme.
What a beautiful birthday present for a century old house! We were honoured to have had the opportunity at such a unique remodel and thank our clients for entrusting their vision to us. Birthday celebration with cake planned for the end of the year!
