53rd Avenue
This charming early-century Seattle home had all the classic challenges — a warren of tightly separated rooms and a painfully long, shadowy hallway that felt cut off from the rest of the house. Today it’s filled with beautiful natural light that reaches deep into its center. We opened up strategic sightlines and added multiple apertures along the hallway, allowing shared daylight to pour through and transform the once-somber passage into a series of happier, more intimate-feeling sections. Careful removal and reduction of unnecessary walls in the main social areas further dissolved that cramped feeling and created a much more generous flow.
Of Note — This lovely client has a spectacular collection of antique glass bottles that she continues to grow on her purposeful excursions. Because this passion is such a meaningful part of her life, it became equally important to us. We developed several thoughtful display and storage solutions so her translucent gems can be beautifully showcased while remaining easy to enjoy and safely stored.
As a PNW interior designer and interior architect specializing in space planning and functional design for whole-home remodels across the greater Seattle region, I love helping older homes shed their heavy, compartmentalized pasts and emerge brighter, more connected, and perfectly tuned to how my clients actually want to live.
