Crown Hill

This beautiful growing family lives in a classic mid-century home with the usual uninspired layout… but also with the usual great natural light.

After working through the design and layout phase together, we talked through hues, textures, and how light would play in the space. We suggested that a grass green or a bold New York Cab Yellow would shine beautifully here and play nicely with the existing wood details. And voilà — they chose sunny yellow handmade tile from Heath Ceramics that instantly calls to mind hailing a cab on a sun-drenched Manhattan day.

Paired with stainless steel countertops and glossy grey case goods, the result is a fun, fresh, and absolutely delectable kitchen.

Of Note — We designed a versatile flip-up breakfast table/work surface in the perfect spot linking the living room, dining room, and kitchen. It easily adapts for everything from morning coffee and projects to buffets, visiting, and whatever the day demands.

*As PNW interior designers and interior architects specializing in space planning and functional design for remodels throughout the greater Seattle region, we love these mid-century transformations where a thoughtful pop of color and smart multi-purpose elements turn an ordinary layout into a bright, joyful space the whole family actually wants to gather in.
