Feinmann was hired to transform this traditional Craftsman home by designing a more functional kitchen for entertaining, adding a family room addition, moving and remodeling the first-floor bathroom, and finding a better solution to connect their home to their yard for ease of use.

The kitchen was awkwardly separated into a long narrow room with the oven and storage, and the refrigerator in a separate room next to the bathroom, creating an unfavorable environment for entertaining, never mind function. We remodeled the kitchen by opening-up the two separate spaces and relocating the full bathroom to a powder room. This gave us the opportunity to shift and open the kitchen into an elegant, functional space that allowed the homeowner a generous cooking surface, and a grand island for entertaining (with seating). The counter features a classic dark gray granite with soft wispy white veining. The cherry cabinets in Pendleton style, which span the length of the new L shaped kitchen, keep with the traditional elements and the craftsmanship style of the home.

The family room addition, offered as solution to connect the home to the yard, also allowed us to create a space that flows naturally into the kitchen. It also provides more open concept living with the addition of a pass through and a large opening between the two spaces. The vaulted ceilings not only give the family room a light and airy feeling, but it also helps to bring more light through to the kitchen. The custom built-ins ground the space and provide much needed storage for family games, books, décor, and the tv.

The home and the yard, once separated by a driveway, were elegantly connected by building a raised patio level with living room. This gave the clients direct access to the patio/yard so they can now enjoy their outside space. In addition, they kept the front half of the driveway in the same location. The exit/entry door from the living room now offers dual accessible from the family room exit to the patio and to the driveway.
