White & Bright Kitchen in Newton
Typical of a 1940s center hall Colonial, past clients had a cramped and disjointed kitchen in their beautiful Newton Home. They returned to Feinmann looking to improve the functionality and increase the size of the kitchen while creating a better connection to the existing dining room. The result is an enlarged modern kitchen with glossy white cabinetry and sleek appliances.
By shrinking the square footage of the existing deck and building 90 square feet onto the kitchen at the rear of the home, the renovation has provided the additional storage, preparation and cooking space the homeowners' desired. The doorway to between the old kitchen and dining room was moved and enlarged, providing a better layout for the new kitchen as well as a gracious entrance to the dining room.
Flanked by two walls of Elmwood cabinetry with smooth, white doors and drawers in a hydro-gloss finish, the kitchen appears elegant and streamlined. There is a column of open shelving rather than more traditional glass front cabinets. Satin nickel hardware by Valli & Valli mixes well with other stainless elements.
The center island is maple with a natural finish that contrasts with the glossy white; the island countertop and perimeter are Torquay by Cambria, a white quartz surface with a subtle pattern of sandy swirls. The backsplash comes from a California company, Heath Tile; the tiles are Crease In and Crease Out in the color "Chalk." The "innie" and "outie" tiles are installed in a staggered, subway pattern providing great texture. More of the monochromatic theme comes into play with the custom milled oak floor, bleached and stained white.
A Jenn Air induction cooktop, Zephr Milano hood with a glass canopy, A Jenn Air counter depth stainless refrigerator and stacked ovens - one by Jenn Air, the other a Miele Steam oven - contribute to both the high-end functionality and the luminous quality of this white, bright Newton kitchen renovation.
