Color Power
This urban family spends a large part of their day together while the dad works out of his home office and the children are home-schooled under their mom’s supervision. The family needed a better separation between the dad’s office and the kid’s study space, additional storage for study curriculum and better flow between the kitchen and dining area. They also wanted to bring in more natural light to the rooms and add an additional bedroom.
The mom’s office was previously situated in what was originally intended as the dining room, between the front entrance and kitchen. This space was incorporated into an expanded kitchen, allowing for room for a central island with bar seating, a utility room and office alcove. The kitchen also features a new, large corner window and increased storage in overhead cabinets, in drawers, and in open shelves beneath the island. The bright red caesarstone island countertop contrasts with the green and yellow walls to enliven and light up the space.
The flow between the kitchen and family room was improved by widening the doorways while open shelving acts as a screen between the rooms. The living room side houses a media center and on the dining room side is a cork display space. Other improvements include new study carrels in the family room, individualized for each child and floor to ceiling shelving for study curriculum and books on either end.
A new master suite was added to the back of the home, with a walk-in shower and large master closet. The original hall bath was renovated to include two new vanities and colorful, kid-friendly tile.
The result of the renovation is a bright, light-filled home perfect for this large family that values their time together while pursuing their academic interests, preparing home-cooked meals, and enjoying their leisure time.
