Mid-Century Refreshed
Sometimes one project turns into several. That’s how this interior home renovated started. Originally, this family of four wanted to update the kitchen and lighten the interior of their lake house. But, as the design process continued, a proposed scope increase opened up more opportunities.
The main living space of this mid-century, open-plan home was dark. Original stained pine covered the floor, walls, and ceiling and cherry cabinets and dark granite counters in the kitchen not only contributed to the darkness, but dated the house too. When initially talking with their architect, the goal was to brighten the space, create more storage and replace and add some appliances, allowing their kitchen some increased functionality, useful for a family that entertains house guests frequently. As discussions continued, the kids’ bunk room and the existing garage were added to the project scope.
