Pool House
The rear yard of this hill country home has undergone a dramatic transformation, evolving from a bare, hot, and seldom used space to a lush compound anchored by an expansive pool house. The original project for the clients added an arbor to the west side of the house for shade and outdoor seating. An organically shaped swimming pool and spa was added in Phase II. In response to the clients need for an outdoor grill, dining area, and storage building, the last phase added a new pool house finished in natural stone and painted metal roof. The 1109 sf pool house includes an outdoor kitchen, dining and sitting areas, a pool bath with an outdoor shower, a storage area/loft, and a Rumford fireplace. It is tied into the pool deck by sweeping stairs and garden terraces.
The pool house sits atop the original septic system drain field, and the clients reluctantly agreed to the substantial expense of relocating it. There was an added challenge of introducing a large detached structure into a limited area without overwhelming the existing house and pool and alienating the neighbors. The solution was to use low scale roofs, compatible materials, and a seamless integration to the site and landscape.
