Transitional Kitchen & Bath

This builder grade master bath had an awkward floor plan with a large corner tub and a strange central shower with an AC duct situated directly overhead. The lighting was poor, and the daylight was filtered by glass blocks.

The owners wanted a large tub so they could stretch their legs, a two person shower, and better storage. Their goal: create a “serenity bath” in a clean more modern style, with lots of blues and greens, as one would find at the beach.
The room was completely gutted and the shower and tub were relocated to more appropriate locations. Tall glass block panels in the shower allow for daylight with privacy from the exterior. The high windows over the new tub are operable, and the lower windows are obscured. A clear glass window in the wall between the shower and vanity allows for natural daylight to filter into the room. The bathroom floor is finished in durable stone, the shower floor in sliced blue pebbles, and the walls in a crisp white subway tile. Mosaic glass tiles complete the tub skirt and contrast with the clear maple cabinetry of the two vanities. Furr downs in the 9’ ceilings define the spaces over the tub, enclosed shower, and vanities.

Special attention to detail and craftsmanship was used to create the bench in the shower area. The bench, an extension of the tub deck, is arranged around the window and is finished with tile on the skirt. Careful coordination between the plumber, glazier, granite installer, and tile subcontractor was needed to successfully create the shower and bath areas.

The result of the master bath renovation is a bright and light filled room, with the colors of the ocean and sand. The owners are enjoying the room with its improved lighting, large shower, and spa tub!
