Game Room Addition

This handsome game room addition needed to fulfill two objectives: 1.) provide a fun place for the clients’ children and grandchildren to visit and hang out, and 2.) blend seamlessly into the pre-existing house’s compositional volume, both inside and out. When all was said and done, the new addition makes the structure feel more harmonious, and the space is commonly used for leisure.

The room was built on top of the existing 3-car garage, which was positioned next to a main hallway, making a perfect opportunity to cut in a stair to reach the new space. New LVL (laminated veneer lumber) floor trusses were installed on which the new floor was built. All of this was done before taking the garage roof off, so as to protect the interior of the existing garage from the weather and elements—tricky business!

Notable features include the coffered ceiling—custom made at the framing stage and finished with alder plywood that was stained to match the cabinets—and the opportunity for daylight to enter the room on three sides. Not pictured are two guest bedrooms, each with their own bath.
