Hanging Out In The Trees
For this project, we took advantage of an existing ipe deck structure to install new 6"x6" redwood posts to support a roof structure above it. The original deck was difficult to keep clean and maintain due to excessive pollen and other junk that rained down from the trees. Sound familiar? This problem, like many projects, turned into a golden opportunity to create the perfect outdoor living space.
The space was outfitted with a TV that could be hidden by sliding doors as well as a bar area, under which a special ornamental fireplace was installed. The fireplace is unusual in that it requires no exhaust; it burns bio-fuel in a reservoir that ceases to burn when you close the cover.
The project features dimmable LED lighing, four different warm woods (ipe, redwood, cedar, and glulam), and a rain-water catchment system that slows runoff to prevent erosion on the lot and downstream in general.
