Atherton Contemporary Ranch Remodel/Addition
In 2015 we were approached by the former owner of this parcel to design a new 5,000 s.f. home on this flat 1 acre site. For various reasons, the project never materialized and the property was put up for sale.
By coincidence, the following year the new buyers found out about our firm on Houzz and through word-of-mouth, and we got a chance to work on the site after all, albeit now as a whole house remodel + addition.
With a fairly tight cost/sf budget guiding our hand, we developed a design that would allow for maximal reuse of the existing envelope, while completely redoing the floor plan and all finishes. The 1950's ranch style design was a fairly easy conversion to a transitional contemporary style, and a high-ceiling garage also converted easily to living space. A new 3 car detached garage represents the one major footprint change. The end result is a like-new home that is both family friendly and suitable for large parties.
Construction start is anticipated in early 2017.
