Los Gatos Spanish Style

The Town of Los Gatos is well-known for having a very challenging design review process. Methodically checking off the many boxes over a 12 month period, we were able to design and entitle a beautiful new Spanish-style home for our clients.

This home sits on an amazing hillside site with a 270-degree panoramic view. The plan weaves its way around existing 300-year-old majestic California oak trees, angling around the trees and opening up to the view.

This new build replaces a charming, but decrepit old adobe ranch style structure that was previously on the property. We salvaged and reused some of the architectural elements from the old structure (fireplace mantel, interior millwork, architectural ephemera) and incorporated them into our new design.

The clients wanted a bright and vibrant design, so the home features a panoply of colors, different textures, and tiles used throughout the house. This is a fully stocked home that has a den, a wine room, a large open great room, 5 bedrooms, and 6 baths. A grand semi-circular staircase leads to a "crow's nest" office with two balconies and en-suite bathroom and serves as a vertical accent for visitors coming up the long entry driveway. Upon parking, a welcoming Spanish courtyard complete with water feature and arched iron gate draws their attention to the oversized archtop front door.

The house was converted from septic to sewer, a change which required a 300' long trench down a neighbor's property the street far below. Preservation of all oak trees was of paramount importance to both the Town and our client.
