Saratoga Contemporary
This unique pie shaped 10,000 s.f. lot on a curving street demanded a unique design approach, in no small part because of the buildable area lost to the city's required 25' front yard setback. By pushing the house to hug the curving front setback line in order to maximize private rear yard open space, the form of the house was truly informed by its site constraints.
The resulting curvilnear design was unusual in that it was both appropriate to its site while unique in its immediate neighborhood. Although we had concerns that the contemporary forms would meet with opposition amongst the neighbors and the Saratoga Planning Commission, the project was approved enthusiastically by 4-1 vote. Interestingly, it was the panel's sole architect who voted against design approval, stating that she believed the curved single story portions felt non-essential.

DEMOLISH AN EXISTING ONE STORY RESIDENCE ON DEVELOPED SITE. NEW CONSTRUCTION TO BE A TWO STORY RESIDENCE WITH 5 BEDROOMS, 4 BATHROOMS AND 1 POWDER ROOM, WITH 2912.3 S.F. LIVING AREA, AND 456.8 S.F. GARAGE TOTALING 3369.1 S.F. ON A 10,313.0 S.F. LOT.
