Bayfront Prairie

Located on one of Tampa’s premier waterfront lots with both open bay views and canal views, this custom home was designed for a couple who had lived on the property for over 35 years in a two-story home with 8’ high ceilings and limited views. They had reached a point in their lives where they were ready for a home that captured the full beauty of the bay through its glass walls and high ceilings. The home was also designed to meet their physical needs as they aged—being fully accessible and liveable should either of them be confined to a wheelchair in the future.

The one-story, Prairie style home is sited to take advantage of the panoramic water views, with its ten foot high walls of glass. Five foot deep soaring roof overhangs shield the glass from the Florida sun while emphasizing the horizontality of the Frank Lloyd Wright influenced home. With a broad and deep covered terrace in the rear, the owners can now enjoy entertaining their friends while overlooking both the bay and their new pool, spa and stone decking.
