Edgewater

The European Craftsman elements of this home are rich with detail and are inspired by famous architects such as the distinguished Edwin Lutyens. WESKetch designed a timeless building for the twenty-first century paying close attention to scale, details, and use of materials. The brick quoins at the front entry are aligned carefully with horizontal lines of the façade, intricately detailed English-style brick comprise the chimneys, and specially-shaped brick create curved eave detail-all critical elements in expressing the period architecture. In addition, handsome brick piers set the entrance to an open, granite block lined driveway that flows into to a custom mahogany door, framed by a gently curving brick wall.
Locating a new home on a historic suburb that abuts a lake is an architectural challenge, especially when the home is meant to look as though it has been there forever. The owner’s of this custom home desired a cozy residence that referenced an ancient English country side estate or cottage.
The success of the project hinged upon the maximum utilization of a small building envelope, solar orientation and views of the pond. Brick offered project architects options that other materials could not. Brick provided a stately presence and does not appear over-scaled for the constrained lot.
