The heated floors seem completely unnecessary in a Southern Californian climate though. Amirite?
Re: heated tiles in SoCa…might not be as necessary there, but for those of us with arthritic bones and crotchety older pets, it would still be worthwhile.
Nope. Contrary to the widespread belief that California is always warm and sunny, there are wide temperature fluctuations, even within seasons, and tile is tile--cold to bare feet. In addition, if it takes the chill off, there might not be any reason to turn the house heat on, especially if you are getting dressed and spending the rest of the morning at work or school. Worth every penny.
love heated floors especially in bathrooms!
Great information
Great reminders. Plus I didn’t think about the heated floor. Lightening in the shower was a new one too.
Heated floors are wonderful. When we built a house in the northeast they really paid off. Now that I have moved to Virginia, I still miss them.
wonderfull
Thank you! Very helpful
Yay! Master bath reno almost completed. 5 out of 5 boxes ticked ( I am assuming Riobel is high end enough).
I am very happy with the results and expecting that I will be good for 10 years +++
In my opinion, heated floors are a luxury item. My budget would be spent on the basics and if there were money leftover I'd put it in the bank for the next renovation project!
Heated flooring is actually quite inexpensive. I was pleasantly surprised.
I would love to have heated floors. My house sits on pier and beam so in the winter my floors are so cold.
Here in Florida we’d like to have cooled floors!
Heated floors are great until they no longer work. Repairs are a pain no one talks about. No thanks.
Sam makes a good point. We put heated floors in our bathroom when we remodeled it about 6 years ago. Now certain spots don’t work and if we want to repair then we have to rip up the entire floor. I’m not interested in doing that ever again.
No to heated floors, based on comments. Overhead heater fan is easily replaced. I agree on plumbing. Always check for brass, still the best. If it's a bargain, it's probably plastic.
Our bathroom rugs take the chill off our floors. And they also help to keep grout clean! They are easy to replace when they wear out or you want to change the look. Perhaps not as "sexy", but much more practical over the long term.
One of our issues is senior safety. Bathroom rugs are a hazard for people with compromised gait. That's why we are going with heated floors. Something for people to consider.
How long does it take to heat up the floor?
Great advice! Thank you.
@ronnie1950 - Good point about compromised movement. I guess at 70+, we qualify for senior status, but do not have those safety issues. The rugs are great for us; warm, soft, water absorbing when you step out of the shower, and forgiving when you drop something, too................
Putting a heated floor in our mbr & walk-in closet was one of the best decisions we made. It was a difficult space to heat. Now the whole space is warm b/c of the floors. I think no matter where you live warm bathroom floors are lovely. They are not expensive and we’ve had no issues after 10 years.
HU-500956342: You don’t need to wait for the floor to heat up. You just set the temperature & timing that suits you, the same as your furnace thermostat. It’s always warm when you choose.
Storege niche! Love it. I am just doing a new bathroom and i need this!
I’ll get heated floors now that I’m 60+. I want to minimize using rugs and bath mats to reduce trips/falls for us and guests.
Regarding shower wall storage, the previous owner of our home placed the storage insert near the shower, where it doesn’t drain well and collects mold if we don’t wipe it regularly. We’ll want to fix that!
Arikay, would you kindly sharing what system/brand name you used for the heated floors? I am seriously considering adding this feature to my reno project, but have seen comments that they stop working after few years. Thank you!
