Houzz TV: 1960s Teardown Now a Bright and Airy Modern Farmhouse
After their three kids moved away to attend college, Olga and Eric Dean felt that their sprawling ranch house in North Tustin, California, was just too much house. To be closer to their children and the beach, they sold the house, moved into a rental property in nearby Costa Mesa and began looking for a house to fit their pared-down lifestyle. They found a 1960s home that suited their needs but required major attention. So they assembled a design and construction team to make sense of the chopped-up layout that had given the laundry room and powder room the best views in the house.
Architect Denis La Roche reconfigured the floor plan and worked with general contractor Jason Adams to raise the roof and add lots of windows to create a bright and airy modern-farmhouse-style home that feels more connected to its large backyard.
Beautiful! Gorgeous transformation. Thank you for sharing!
Well done team! Perfect example of a beautiful home realized by great owners, architect, builder, consultants and subs. Congratulations.
Bravo team Olga! Costa Mesa, Cali is a gem of old 60's ranch homes just crying to be transformed!
Welcoming and Beautiful . Thank you for sharing.
I like when she says kids when in fact they're all grown up man. What an adorable mom!
Really beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Wow. That is a fabulous transformation of an ordinary house. I love the airy inside. The windows completely change the feel of it both inside and out. Just beautiful!
I am curious to know the total budget for this amazing redone home.
What a lovely transformation. All of the spaces are so warm and inviting.
well done! bravo.

i really enjoyed this video and loved the final look of this home.
Very nicely done...great floorplan...functional and beautiful!
Beautiful! Where did you source the island pendants? Are the oak floors engineered or finished in place?
Anyone know what the pattern of the living room rug is or where I can get one?
This is my dream home when I retire. Just love the layout and all of the materials used throughout the house. The kitchen and pantry design is amazingly functional. In addition, the best is the inside outside patio door system. Simply wow...last but not least the master bathroom; OMG... love love the materials, the woods, the floors and hardware... the architect and contractor was able to take your vision and made it into a long live reality. Fantastic partnership. Enjoy your home with your loved ones as it’s so inviting and warm.
Lovely just lovely!!!
This is lovely. And I just love the Houzz videos. I'm sure they're a lot of work, but please keep them up. They're such a feature!!
Perfect home!!
What is the wall color in the master bedroom?
Transformational beauty and inviting concept. Awesome!
Beautifully done. Always seems scary to me to take on a big project like this with all the war stories I hear and have experienced with contractors on smaller projects. I guess its all in the "homework"
Beautiful! Can you tell me what brand and color white paint was used on the trim and walls? It is so pretty!
I would be interested in the cost of the remodel without furniture since there are so many ‘60s ranch houses that haven’t been touched. It would help greatly since I’m looking at houses and that is all I see.
Gorgeous job everyone! We’re planning to downsize next year and found your home very inspirational! Thanks for sharing
I'm in total awe of this reformation. It is exactly what I would love to have with the exact mix of materials to make it interesting and just the right glow to make it homey and comfortable. Simply WOW!
Beautiful transformation
This is gorgeous!
Wonderful transformation! Love it!
It’s amazing what you can change with the right team!
How much does a remodel like this cost.? So much per square foot,?
love the pedant lights! can you where you bought your furniture and fixtures with prices
Amazing transformation! Love what you’ve done with the house!
I would to know details on the kitchen back splash please. Looks like the rug and pendants are from Pottery Barn - or at least I know they have something very similar!
Would Olga share the source for her dining table and chairs?
What a fantastic remodel! The windows and doors are beautiful! It’s nice to know that all involved enjoyed the entire experience of creating this wonderful home.
This it’s very pretty. Well done!
Simply beautiful. Such a great collaboration.
Very well done! Even the smallest place - mudroom looks stylish and sleek )
Nicely done!
Great ! The style wasn’t disrupted. The artistic plan brings you a clear understanding of the designer. Lovely decoration and plan. I loved.
Stunning transformation!! Love that area and what a great teamwork.
Woow
Beautiful remodel! But I think for these stories to be complete, you should give us a rough idea of the budget and total cost of the renovation, thanks.
Beautiful Beautiful!! Absolutely stunning and well done......love all the natural light.
Please can you share what color white is on the wall?
Love the transformation of this home. Can I ask the budget?
Really spectacular remodel all the way through. The light fixtures and final touches of the home decor bring this all together. I love the open layout of it all. Nicely done!

Simplistic beauty. Doesn't look like those ones where they appear to be trying too hard to achieve a look. In this one it just exists, which is really nice. Totally agree with the fellow that the best place to spend money is in the door systems and windows, versus the decor, as they allow you to fulfill the style of living. In this case they bring the outdoors in, which always makes for quality living. Great job.
So many great ideas! 2020 the year of #Cool!🥳
A bit late to comment on the November post, but for the person interested in where the living room rug is from, it's Pottery Barn.
Luv this
The house looks beautiful.
I have a couple quick question about the kitchen island pendants. How wide are the pendants? How did you decide the height above countertop?
Love your house...it turned out beautiful!! What are you using on the floor?
