Tour a Casual California Home Made for Entertaining
This empty-nest couple in Marin County, California, wanted their home to be the spot where everyone wanted to hang out — their college-age kids, their friends and their kids’ friends. To transform the classic cottage into an entertainer’s dream, the couple put together a remodeling team that included designer Jennifer Messina.
Messina, who used Houzz Pro software to manage the project, created welcoming interiors that look impressive without feeling too buttoned-up. Dark wood flooring, high ceilings and lots of windows and folding glass doors seamlessly connect indoors and out and establish a lively atmosphere. The couple’s artwork collection adds pops of color and personality throughout the home. And a spectacular backyard features zones for everything: swimming, lounging, cooking and dining.

I love this home. I looked at the dining area and it seems easy to expand if you need to seat more people. I like the office /den area and that there are two desk areas in the house. I appreciate the flexibility and the timelessness of the house. Well done.
