(Addition) Without a Foundation
The homeowners had grandiose addition/remodel ideas for their galley kitchen but an unrealistic budget. The solution was to give them a 2’ wide by 21’ long addition without a foundation. The extra 42 sq. ft. plus the adjacent dining room space provided the square footage needed for a new design. The remaining budget was used for a built in entertaining/eating island, new cabinetry including two separate pantry spaces, professional grade appliances (Sub-Zero refrigeration and a 48” Wolf range), and a large working desk space with viewing access to the TV from the entire kitchen. The existing windows along the back were replaced with French doors allowing access to the backyard and outdoor grilling area. The homeowners desired finishes and colors inspired by mother nature (as reflected in the selection of the Bianco Rio granite, Sienna stained shaker cabinetry, refinished hardwood flooring, and oil rubbed bronze cabinet hardware). They also desired a slight industrial feel provided by the stainless steel elements throughout including the apron front sink, custom range backsplash, desk foot rail, open stainless shelves for display and stainless appliances. The expanded entry to the new kitchen seamlessly blends the new dream kitchen with the rest of the house.
