(Remodel - Custom) Klahanie Great Room Conversion
The existing kitchen was small with outdated finishes while the adjacent dining room was rarely utilized. The existing family room had an awkward layout for relaxing and entertaining. In order to expand the size of the existing kitchen, the wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed. The outdated oak cabinets, tile counter-tops and mis-matched appliances were replaced with white painted shaker cabinetry, dark grey granite counter-tops with unique white veining and stainless appliances. The custom built-in bench seating anchors the room and provides ample seating for dining. By adding 2 wine refrigerators (one in the kitchen and one in the adjacent family room), the homeowners acquired the wine storage they desired as well as a separate bar area for entertaining. A portion of the existing family room fireplace space was converted into a bar while a new stone surround provided the perfect location for the hanging their flat-screen TV. The homeowner’s new space is open and inviting; perfect for entertaining as well as daily life. In order to gain space for the open concept kitchen, we removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room. By adding custom built in bench seating that compliments the kitchen cabinetry, we delineated the dining area while maintaining cohesiveness throughout the space. In the family room the existing fireplace mantle and awkward niche area were transformed into a floor to ceiling stone fireplace surround and bar area. The space above the fireplace provides an area to hang the flat screen TV while the bar provides an additional entertaining area. In the kitchen a second wine refrigerator provides added storage. A custom dog eating area was created that seamlessly blends in with the new space while being discretely tucked away.
