The homeowner liked the existing layout of her kitchen but wanted to update the finishes while staying in a cost effective budget. Because she enjoyed cooking, she wanted to change her electric stove to a dual fuel range which offered the control of a gas cook-top but the ease of an electric oven. A range was selected that had the controls on the front to allow maximum viewing area of the backsplash. The other existing black appliances were replaced with budget friendly stainless appliances. On the island the homeowner wanted a more effective layout. The existing octagonal island was replaced with a rectangular shape, keeping the island seating but adding extra cabinet storage and a cook-book shelf. Two pendant lights were added over the island to further delineate the island eating space and also bring in additional light. The old vinyl flooring was replaced with a budget friendly pre-finished hardwood flooring. The old oak cabinets and oak interior doors were updated with white painted cabinetry and two panel interior doors that complimented the shaker style cabinet doors. By increasing the size of the upper cabinets and adding crown molding, the new cabinets ran to the ceiling, eliminating the dust catching ledge in the old cabinet layout. A stocking quartz counter-top was used in order to eliminate waste so the homeowner only paid for the square footage used. A budget friendly white subway tile was used for the backsplash with a marble accent that adds a decorative touch with a minimal increase in cost. The homeowner was amazed at the transformation that was made all staying under her budget.
