(Custom Home) Contemporary in Meydenbauer

The existing 1950s home was dark, compartmentalized, and failed to take advantage of the lake views. The homeowners desired an open-floor plan that was both family friendly and showcased the home’s incredible lake views. The homeowners desired a contemporary style home that felt light and airy while still being warm and inviting. The homeowners also desired finishes that were unique and custom in appearance while being cost effective and easy to maintain. The homeowners gravitated toward white finishes for the interior of their home. In order to bring interest to the space with a white color palette, the design incorporated a variety of textures, illumination and utilized the natural surroundings to bring in added color. The iridescent texture finish on the kitchen tile backsplash anchors the open-concept kitchen while complimenting the floor to ceiling fireplace tile on the opposing wall in the living room. The white stone wall at the entryway provides continuity between the interior and exterior and gives the interior added dimension. The 16’ wide Nanawall and the numerous large windows showcase the home’s view while bringing in colors from the natural surroundings. Additionally, the homeowners did not want to have any carpet in the home but hardwood flooring was cost prohibitive for such a large space. Instead a luxury vinyl plank flooring was used for all areas of the home except for the tiled bathrooms. The result is stunning! The flooring is family friendly and nearly indistinguishable from the white washed designer wood the homeowner originally selected (photo 8). For the master bathroom, they desired a contemporary styling that blends both feminine and masculine influences. The vertical grain of the rich French roast colored sapele cabinetry provides ample storage while complimenting the rich vertical grey tones in the shower deco. The embedded silver metallic sparkles in the quartz counter-top and rain-drop chandelier provide the balancing feminine touches. Mixing porcelain tile with natural stone and selecting cost effective plumbing fixtures enabled the incorporation of a steam shower and in-floor radiant heat. The homeowners also wanted a powder bathroom for their guests that packed a wow factor. By adding a floor to ceiling textured tile, tall mirror and jewelry inspired chandelier, an interesting guest bath was created. On the exterior, the Nichiha siding provides a contemporary feel while the pre-painted two toned (mocha and sojii colored) siding panels provide the low maintenance the homeowners desired.
