(Remodel - Custom) Steel Beam Structural Remodel 30' Opening

Due to a wall separating the kitchen from the dining room, both rooms were undersized and crowded. While the existing kitchen finishes were outdated and the space compartmentalized, the homeowners liked the overall appliance locations but wanted to incorporate an additional oven and a separate bar space. By removing the existing dropped ceiling beams and the wall separating the kitchen and dining spaces and replacing it with a new steel beam that was recessed into the ceiling, a large great room design was created that opens to the back deck to enjoy the water views. The homeowners desired a casual eating space for breakfast that was separate from their dining table. By adding a custom built-in black walnut round-top table at the end of the island a unique eating area was created that also serves as a focal point in the room. The wood brings in added warmth and the light and dark wood tones compliment the lighter wood color in the patio doors and darker hues in the new bar cabinetry, flooring and wood furnishings. The homeowners desired an overall kitchen style that would blend it with their traditional home but wanted a clean, modern spin. By using an absolute black papyrus counter-top in lieu of the standard absolute black counter-top, a more modern honed textured look was created. Small details like using a contemporary minimalistic crown molding above the cabinets and selecting modern professional grade appliances and long square cabinet hardware give the space the transitional feel the homeowners desired. In order to provide 2 separate ovens for the homeowner, a range was incorporated into the design as well as a separate oven and convection microwave. By using a different color cabinetry for the bar, a separate entertainment area is delineated. By adding a separate two tiered built-in near the patio door, the dog feeding station the couple desired was incorporated that is easy for their pets to access but aesthetically appealing.
