(Remodel - Custom) Asian Elegance

The homeowners living in this home (originally constructed years ago by a Japanese craftsman) previously remodeled other portions of the home but neglected this space until they agreed to host an upcoming family reunion at their home. In anticipation for the visits, the couple planned a multi-room remodel that would emphasize the Asian inspired elements of the home in both the architectural space plan and interior design while making the area more functional and modern (all while staying within the existing footprint of that corridor). They desired to transform the narrow, dark hallway into a wider, brighter and more aesthetically appealing space. This was accomplished by expanding the hallway width-wise, adding skylights and creating a focal point at the end of the hall with a grass-cloth wall-paper and art niche (additional period lighting and a gallery style art niche were also located along the hallway). The existing guest bedroom was cramped, had no closet and was walled-off from the guest bathroom. Additionally, two outdated and awkwardly laid out bathrooms served as the primary powder room for all house guests and the main bath for guests staying over-night, further causing issues since both were located across the hall-way from the guest bedroom. By combining the space from the two existing bathrooms, a direct access from the guest room into the shower area was created and a pocket door was added allowing users to section off the shower area from the main powder area as needed. The floating illuminated vanity, glass mosaic tiles, and fixtures with an Eastern flair transformed the powder room into a showpiece. The outdated and inefficient laundry room was reconfigured and updated to accommodate use by multiple individuals at a time and to provide added storage for the homeowners. While the homeowners are currently using the entire guest bedroom for guests there is enough space to add a desk and utilize this as a secondary office area when house guests are not present; a specific request by the couple. While new window coverings, interior doors/millwork, and furnishings/accents were added, special care was given to incorporate many of the couple’s treasures from their travels.
