(Remodel - Custom) Wine Cellar
The homeowner’s dreamed of adding an incredible wine cellar to their home accessible from the interior. In order to achieve this, the shed/storage space adjacent to the home was converted. The unfinished, unconditioned space was re-framed, re-insulated, re-sided, and re-roofed to meet the stringent requirements for the perfect wine cellar temperature and moisture. The existing exterior door was removed and framed in, the concrete was saw-cut and a NanaWall (with 3 point locking mechanism door was added) providing singular access from the downstairs office into the newly secured wine cellar. Since the wine cellar addition is on the downhill side, a trench drain with a series of waterproofing membrane and flashings were added to prevent rainwater from intruding into the new space. A self-contained cooling unit, venting to the exterior, was added to ensure the perfect temperature for the 2287 bottles of wine. The wine racking material was made of heart redwood, an all-natural material with no clear coat and no stain. To gain maximum bottle capacity, we added bottle storage into the void corners and double deep racking on the back wall. The cork floor and tabletop and stemware tasting area provide the perfect wine-enthusiast get-away without leaving home!
