The existing 1,500sq ft 1950s home had an inefficient layout and energy usage along with outdated finishes and lead/asbestos containing materials. The homeowners, both professionals in the medical field, dreamed of a healthy and green home that reflected their contemporary/craftsman design style. The re-build, a 3,276 sq. ft., three story Built Green 5-STAR Certified home was designed to utilize a portion of the existing foundation along the front of the home, to take advantage of the lake views along the back of the home, and to provide the entertaining spaces the couple desired. High energy efficiency, superior indoor air quality and minimal environmental impacts from the deconstruction and construction were key goals for the project.
