Walking into this home you get a feeling of being on an exotic tropical island engulfed in simple elegance. The asian influence can be seen throughout the home from the hanging lanterns to the Japanese wood doors that were transformed into a dining table. From bamboo to white oak, the material used in this home give it a welcoming feel. The bamboo gives the pitched ceiling texture while the white-oak beautifully frames the walls of the rooms and the floors. Great care was taken to create this architectural detail. Each piece of the bamboo was cut individually and laid out on the floor before being inserted in the framework on the ceiling. One of the most interesting architectural features of the home could be overlooked without a discriminating eye. Architect Rod Youngson uses large and small squares in grids, windows, and baseboards throughout the house. The wood ceiling grids result in patterns of light and shadow making a checkerboard pattern on the floor depending on the time of day. The details in this home give it a uniquely custom look while maintaining its simple, timeless feel.
