Morita Kitchen

This is a remodel we finished this summer in the Millcreek area. The client was unhappy with the flow of things and her doors that were falling apart. The original kitchen had a peninsula that protruded from the left side of the stove and the refrigerator barely fit into a walled in cubby on the side of her pantry. I decided to keep a more open feel to the space by removing the peninsula and replacing it with a small island to create a better flow of traffic. We had also discussed having a cleaner more organic feel to the room with emphasis on her Asian background so we settled on Vertical Grain Fir as the wood which we also used on the new pantry doors the carpenter installed to match the rest of the room. The client had also fallen in love with a previous job where we had used Rain Forrest Marble, seen on the island, the surrounding countertops are a simple Quartz color so as not to steal any focus from the marble. The linear 2 X 12" glass tile backsplash compliments the lines in the doors as well as the color in the marble. The typical direction to run the grain on the doors is vertical but I decided the upper cabinets would have more impact running the grain horizontally . The end result is what you see.
