Napa Valley Cheese Barn

We were beyond thrilled to be a part of the Traditional Home 2014 Napa Valley Showhouse. Even more exciting was that it was held at the Caldwell Vineyards and that we were able to design the lounge space within the 1920s Cheese Barn. In creating a place for the Caldwells to relax and entertain, it was important that we also preserve the natural, rustic beauty of the building while still giving a nod to Caldwell Vineyard’s rich history.

We wanted to ensure we maintained the building's history of being a cheese barn. One of the many thoughtful touches was the collection of vintage cheese boards that we placed all over the back stone wall

The space includes a collection of new and vintage furnishings but everything was thoughtfully chosen so that it all blends together seamlessly. We were particularly pleased with the eclectic collection of chairs that we used to surround the dining table.

The dining space is positioned near the doors in order for the Caldwells to enjoy the beautiful view as they entertain their friends or enjoy a quiet dinner together.

The finishing details are just as important as the grand gestures. We loved this simple place setting of dinnerware, that we found in France, paired with a thin natural log place mat.

The shelves in the adjacent wine cellar were designed specifically to showcase the beautiful Caldwell Vineyard labels of the wine stored there.

One of our favorite pieces in the space was the coffee table created from a vintage barn door that was covered with lichen. We preserved it just as it was by adding a piece of tempered glass on top and using a pair of vintage French sawhorses as the base.

The workspace, located behind the wing back chairs, was designed to be flexible so that the homeowner could dry herbs, arrange flowers, hold cheese and charcuterie tastings, or just sit quietly in the cozy corner and read.

Wooden ceilings created a space that felt cozy and intimate and helped to create cohesion between the various rooms.
