I've read so many of Jennifer's articles on Houzz and it was great to see her "in person" in her own home!
We were fortunate to find an interior designer who was recently retired. She no longer wanted to do full scale projects but she was a genius at colors. We used her for all the finishes - paint, roof, deck, counters- anything where things needed to play well together. I figure we came out way ahead since we never had samples or cans of paint that we’d purchased that didn’t work! It was also such a relief to have someone cut through the noise. Instead of waffling over sixteen shades for the roof, she was able to walk in and say, “That one.” I don’t know what we will do if she ever really retires!
I am really enjoying the casual interview format that HOUZZ has done in these videos. Informative and makes me want to keep looking at more than once. Very cool!

Really Like your kitchen. My current kitchen uses green and my new kitchen I was thinking of using either the blue or green with my new warm white cabinets. Thanks for the inspiration. One question though since no tile like backsplash what did you do where the wall met the counter... caulk only?

I love the choice of the teal color in the backsplash . My business cards and website have a lot of that color! It has a lot of energy! I am interested in the shampoo bottle tiles too! Will check them out!
Where can we source the "shampoo backsplash"?
Thank you for the nice comments, everyone. For those of you wondering about the shampoo label backsplash...I simply uploaded my 5" x 5" design onto Avery's site and had it printed on matte white film, which is waterproof. I see now that they have a removable waterproof material which might be even better -- easier to remove and straighten if needed, as it is tricky to install straight. oh, and susan stroud, yes, I used flexible caulk to seal the area between the countertop and backsplash. It will need to be removed and replaced at some point, especially behind the sink.

I am a bit confused - what is the material of the backsplash besides the preprinted Avery labels applied to it?
Thanks so much for doing this kitchen tour!! Really appreciate it : ) We are getting ready to update our 1950 kitchen and have had years to go through ideas, trends and period research. After so many years it makes it clear what looks updated true to the character of the home and what doesn't work. I like how you did different colors/textures on backsplash, walls, flooring and decor <3 I always struggle with: Does the backsplash, counter top and flooring have to match or be in the same lane? @magueta it's basically a water-resistant, heavy duty wallpaper (or decals) in 5" x 5" squares. and you can order it in other custom sizes.
@DreamStyle Kitchens & Baths, LLC the labels were applied to primed and painted drywall. The material is impervious to water but obviously not to heat so we installed a sheet of zinc behind the range. The countertop installers did a good job of getting a tight fit between the countertop and backsplash wall, so we just needed to run a bead of caulk to make the back edge water tight.
