Start-to-finish support. Abutbol makes it a point to provide full support to every homeowner throughout the project. This ranges from guiding them through the design process to providing practical advice on choosing materials and finishes that work with their budgets. “We are always there with them,” he says.
Focus on efficiency. Abutbol also looks for ways to streamline the building process without sacrificing quality. “We try to be as efficient as possible,” he says. The result is a smooth workflow that saves both time and money.

1. Customize Your Space
Add the touches that make your spaces feel right for you. “We created a custom primary bathroom with added features at this Los Angeles home,” Abutbol says of the complete remodel for a homeowner who found him on Houzz.
Abutbol designed both the home and the exterior space, adding luxury features and including elements such as arches that tie the bath to the design in the rest of the house. The primary bathroom includes a wet room with platform tub and steam shower that takes in the view outside. A separate, sunken cold-plunge tub has its own space and view. A herringbone pattern on the wall in a warm neutral tone that matches the rest of the room adds a contemporary feel. “It’s like a whole spa,” Abutbol says.

2. Create Subtle Separations
Balance an open floor plan with features that help define specific spaces. At the same home, Abutbol used architectural details to highlight different areas while maintaining the easy flow. “The different rooms are still integrated,” he says.
Wrought iron and glass panes and sliding doors on one wall of the dining room give the space an open feel while allowing it to be closed off when desired. On the opposite wall, a see-through fireplace creates connection to the living room. Abutbol also added an arched doorway at one end of the room, a recurring feature in the home, including the primary bath already seen. “We also used the same flooring throughout the space,” Abutbol says.

3. Divide to Conquer
Add distinct zones to a long space. “It has an open feeling but still has distinct spaces,” Abutbol says of this Sherman Oaks home.
The beach-style home’s layout flows from the living room at the front of the house to the family room at the rear. Adding a structural beam overhead allowed Abutbol to remove the wall separating the kitchen from the rest of the space and add seating for the island. New oak flooring and lighting helped complete the transformation, which was then revealed to the homeowners. “It was a complete surprise and they loved it,” Abutbol says of the project, which was completed in a two-month window.
