Irongate Remodel

Built in 1991, the home’s original style was contemporary, with large spaces, a cool color palette, and few natural material finishes. The home was completely remodeled into a more traditional, modern home with a timeless appeal. The plans called for changing nearly every finish in the existing home. Michaelson Homes built custom-made exposed trusses crafted on site in the home’s Great Room, which serve as a dramatic focal point in the room. A stone fireplace designed by the homeowner was custom carved onsite, also in the Great Room. Moroccan-inspired finishes were added to study and slate floors were installed in the Carolina Room. To continue the traditional element throughout the house, alder wood finishes and exposed beams were added. A countless number of stone and wooden arches now grace the interior of the home. Beautiful custom cabinetry by Riverside Cabinets, the in-house cabinet shop at Michaelson Homes, was installed in the kitchen, hearth room, butlery, mudroom and master suite. The cabinets, hood and refrigerator panels in the kitchen translated the dated look of the former kitchen into a warm and inviting family-friendly space. Stone archways now connect the kitchen to the hearth room, where built-in cabinetry accents both sides of the stone fireplace and hides the mechanicals for the television.
The second floor in the original home was divided into two completely separate spaces, accessibly only by staircases on the first floor. The remodeled home connects both spaces with a bridge lined with Riverside book shelves and graced with beautiful metal railing, which better serves the needs of the current owners and their children. The children’s rooms reflect each of their personalities, while the master suite offers their parents a luxurious retreat. The master suite includes his and her dressing spaces and custom closets and a convenient laundry room.
