Historic Kitchen
Oftentimes homes built in the early nineteen hundreds, while having elegant architecture and craftsmanship, were built with the kitchen space almost as a afterthought. Perhaps in days gone by, kitchens were a lower priority. Today however, active families consider the kitchen to be the “hub” of the home where function meets beauty.
This elegant home, located on beautiful Corbin Park in Spokane is listed on the Historic Register as one of the great classic homes in our community. The existing kitchen was small with poor circulation and counter space. Since the home was an historic icon, an addition was not possible, so we made the space feel bigger by removing a masonry wall. This brought the informal eating area together with a part of the kitchen. To allow room to walk and cook, we created alcoves, which recessed the range and refrigerator back into existing spaces. Magnificent woodwork and cabinetry were matched to the period of the original home.
