Wood Floor Finsh - Hi Charlie- I love your work. I keep running into it while exploring ideas.
I believe this is a quarter/rift sawn white oak and I am wondering if ou could tell me the finish used? Perhaps the color of the the stain if any and possibly if it is an oil or water poly? Thank you Andrew »
Michelle Paninopoulos Charlie -- I know you've had more comments and questions on this house than probably anything I've ever seen on Houzz . . . but since that just reflects what a beautiful project this is, hopefully you won't mind one more? We are constructing a new home and I was very much inspired by this design to use venetian plaster finish on the see-thru gas fireplace we are building in between our living room and dining. I'm at the point of wondering about the hearth area and whether we need stone. I can't see what you used on the living room side, but the library actually looks like it's just venetian plaster! Is that the case? Is it really durable enough to be used on a surface where it is likely to get stepped on? And, if so, what substrate would you use in that situation? As I am planning to do the plastering myself (cannot afford the rates of the only plasterer in my area who specializes in this work), I need to be able to give the contractor the spec for the hearth substrate. If you recall what was used in this application, that would be a huge help. Many, many thanks for any guidance.
The bookshelves are lovely. About what size are they? - I have used the idea of the wood covered wall in our design, with our two sided fireplace in the wood wall. We have bookshelves as well and we are able to put some glass above as your design. I like the idea of fixed shelves and am wondering the size you have.
If you like, I can send you a photo when we are through with our remodel. We are using a Mpls architect for our Michigan home. »
