Granite Grannies
We covered this bathroom in Rainforest Brown Granite, transforming a relatively ordinary space into a rich, luxurious in-home escape. The granite is book-matched throughout so that the distinctive tree-like veins continue smoothly across angles and corners. Note the custom shelf in the shower. Edge profile is a half-bullnose.

This property has a wonderful juxtaposition of modern and traditional elements, which are unified by a natural planting scheme. Although the house is traditional, the client desired some contemporary elements, enabling us to introduce rusted steel fences and arbors, black granite for the barbeque counter, and black African slate for the main terrace. An existing brick retaining wall was saved and forms the backdrop for a long fountain with two stone water sources. Almost an acre in size, the property has several destinations. A winding set of steps takes the visitor up the hill to a redwood hot tub, set in a deck amongst walls and stone pillars, overlooking the property. Another winding path takes the visitor to the arbor at the end of the property, furnished with Emu chaises, with relaxing views back to the house, and easy access to the adjacent vegetable garden.

We designed this bathroom makeover for an episode of Bath Crashers on DIY. This is how they described the project: "A dreary gray bathroom gets a 180-degree transformation when Matt and his crew crash San Francisco. The space becomes a personal spa with an infinity tub that has a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Marble floors and a marble shower kick up the luxury factor, and a walnut-plank wall adds richness to warm the space. To top off this makeover, the Bath Crashers team installs a 10-foot onyx countertop that glows at the flip of a switch." This was a lot of fun to participate in. Note the ceiling mounted tub filler. The master shower in the past was a very small corner shower. We used a frameless glass enclosure and used the granite bath tub deck as a shower bench. The end result was a very open and smart layout. photo credits: Olympia Sobande

A cramped master bath was opened up with a larger glass shower and coordinating tile throughout the space. New countertops, lighting, and a large mirror enhance the space even more.
