Christ Yes! 'Bout time somebody posted somethin like this. Wish there was more of it! The first two look like Pinus Contorta - Two-needle fascicles. Below that I think is a Pseudotsuga Menziesi (doug Fir). Then some ponderosa. Where is this? Near Flagstaff? Somewhere in Colorado? Rockies it seems somewhere.

Keep it up. Post more. Better than pictures of people's backyards (no offense to the cultivar enthusiasts, except the nutjobs that already hate me, that is.)

Oh jesus, just read the words on the top of the post where you explained the location. Golden, Colorado, eh? "COORS BEER - BREWED BY SCAB NAZIS, DRUNK BY a--holes!"...saw that written on a boxcar door once.

Those rocks looks beautiful, too. Wonder if there's any fossils in that strata.

I'd say all the pines are Pinus ponderosa subsp. scopulorum; needles too long and bark too thickly scaly for P. contorta.

Pseudotsuga menziesii subsp. glauca for the rest.

So much for conifers and soil.

That shot of the big deer is excellent! What a chance encounter.
The pines and firs are wonderful little scramblers, as well.

There could be fossils on the strata, this is near "Dinosaur Ridge" (yep, on the way to Genessee).
Thanks for the ID's, I spend a lot of time looking at these trees, it's nice to finally put a name to a fascicle.

Nice word play sluice.
A goal is to look at the forest and not just see trees, but know what those trees are.
This forum has been a lot of help, and especially appreciate when the features that lead to an ID are included.
