What are these white 'worm' things growing from my tomato Branch,

I have tried to do research on this for some time and have been unsuccessful, the branch of my Roma tomato plant has white worm like things protruding from the branches, any ideas? Are the tomatoes safe to eat? The plant and fruit appear to be very healthy. Thank you!

They are rootlets. Tomatoes are one of those plants you can hill up with soil and they'll root along the stem. Quite a normal thing on a tomato.

If your climate is dry you can let the tomatoes sprawl on the ground and they will sink the rootlets into the ground and get moisture from a wider area. Most have gotten so used to tying tomatoes up that you seldom see gardens that tomatoes sprawl in.
