Probably asian maples like Shantung, Trident, Korean, Paperbark and... I forget but I don't know if they'd survive in zone 4. I would say Korean maple would have best chance. Do some research on other maples. Simply just do a search for your state and maple.

Why would you want to? Grass in the root zone of trees is sort of detrimental to health of the tree. Better to have a nice mulch ring there. I can't think of any fast growing maples to easily grow grass under once mature.
