Dangerously hot modern fireplace door

We have a modern looking fireplace door. It has metal trim. When we use the fireplace the metal part gets very hot and our kids don't know that and I'm worried they will burn their fingers. It doesn't look very dangerous, but it's like a stand alone oven.

Can we insulate this with something? Brick? Would that help. Thanks

Those are going to get hot. I'm not sure that brick would completely solve the issue without compromising the opening and closing of the door. Have you done some type of education with your kids about other hot surfaces - irons, stove tops, ovens? Something similar seems applicable here.

Yeah I'd definitely get a serious fireguard. In our last house this was one of the biggest problems we had with the dogs and kids. It was unfortunate because it made it so we didn't even end up using it very much.
