Dark gray or light gray couch?

Going for a farm house theme. I want to keep it light for the most part but thinking the darker contrast couch might look better? Question with the paint?

Bedroom window. 2 in the room same size

Petar I don't know the exact color off hand but I will look tomorrow and let you know. It is a very true Grey and extremely light. Very pretty. Looks great with light floors and lots of natural light

The tons of curtains I posted (lol) were for this window. I was thinking this is the dining room widow??
And yes there is no NEED for the blinds too...more for just extra texture. Maybe hold off on them if you're not sure and add them in at a later date if you feel you are lacking texture, interest, or whatever else.

Are the two windows in the kitchen about the same size?
Also, I didn't know there was another window in the kitchen....it would look strange to have curtains on the sink window and blinds on the other window in this case. I think you should do shades or blinds on both windows because you do not want short curtains. And the same shade or blind of course lol. Anyways short curtains are kinda dated...I only see them in mid century decor or above a sink (anywhere else, they just shouldn't exist lol).

Are the two kitchen windows the same size? I think I might've asked this already....just reiterating. Lol.
And do you have any less heavy options for living room curtains?
Ok I def need to sleep lol....it's almost two am here in California. Bedtime haha:)
All your inspiration pics are white or light tan walls, white sofas...your choices are grey walls, grey sofa and brown blinds....? I think you need to go lighter.
Jordan, I will just go with blinds in the kitchen. No they are not the same size in the kitchen. The one with the sink is quite small and the other is just normal size maybe even slightly larger than standard. Yes I can go with a less heavier option for curtains but I just want to make sure that I'm providing enough privacy in the house. Which is why am thinking white blinds underneath might be a good option too but not quite sure yet. Thanks for clarifying about the dining room curtains I was thinking those ones would probably look good in that space too. I'm going to try to head to JCPenney today and look at a few. If possible I'll take some pictures and post on here of something that I'm interested in. Girl, I was up at two 3 AM is well here in Minnesota. Super tired. As always thanks for your feedback, you're the best!!!

Heather, the walls are super light gray almost white. The couch that I'm getting is medium to lighter gray. The room general is very bright with natural sunlight and lots of white with the ceiling and around the windows. I'm going to get white curtains and not do the roman shades. Also my rug will be off-white. thanks for the feedback. I plan on chalk painting everything white that I get for and tables and what not. Definitely need to finance correctly on that and get things from garage sales and paint them up this spring

Jordan, do you think those dainty curtains that you posted would look good for the main living room area? I'm sure JCPenney will have tons of white curtain options and I will look for non-heavy ones
  • 7 years ago

Ok thank you Melissa, i will check back in here for the paint code. Appreciate it!

So pretty and love the clean airiness of the white and grey. Are you planning any pop of color in your accessories or pillows? Many would go well, yellow, emerald, aqua, orange? I would bring more life to your room

Dark gray. The light gray is too close to the wall color. And add another color so you won't end up with another faddish gray and gray room.
So I got the cute chairs in my place and they look fabulous against the gray wall but I don't think the dark gray couch is going to look well what do you think?

I def need more of a taupe couch. Gray will look sooo off. Hoping the furniture guy will let me put my $50 down I put to towards the gray couch and let me something like this...Alenya Sofa

I liked the dark gray couch, i just think with everything being gray or white you need some color

or the lacy sofa Lacy Sofa Pic

OMG i so can not choose. Maybe the gray does look nice, I see your point dhadley...I am going for a farmhouse look so neutrals and whites are the theme, Im okay with a lot of them. It's easy to put in darker accents if need be. hmmm. Someone help lol

I should add the chairs are light with taupe undertones

    The couch i got

I think your couch is going to look great. And another thing is that you don't necessarily need to pay attention to how each specific item looks w your wall...it's more how the whole room will look together. But honestly, I think the couch will look great. Especially since you wanted the gray and not taupe cause of the kiddos!
And regarding the color....you want farmhouse. So maybe a few tiny baby blue accents and greenery, but that's it. Stick w neutrals imo. But tons of textures. And you are well on your way w the textures lol

Melissa...I had a crazy day including running from a gunman today so forgive me if my words or thoughts seem jumbled
  • 7 years ago
Lol to me this is the best. I think it is going to look fabulous. Also remember when getting in new things, the new thing will stick out to you at first, simply because it's new. So even if you get it in and feel you think it's off (which I really don't think it's going to be), stick w it a few days before making any decisions.
Oh I forgot to include the picture of the one I thought looked best in the above comment (told you...jumbled thoughts lol).
Hahahah I hope you got to sleep in today! I'm trying to get my sleeping schedule back on track.
And absolutely those dainty curtains I showed you will work in the living room and dining room both. So yes you could get them for the living space. I wish I could respond to you earlier. I'm sorry
  • 7 years ago
I think these two would both be good in living space as well as dining space. I think w the dark couch you are going to need the white or cream curtains.
Did you find any curtains you liked? Ps if you ever want to use my email for times when you're shopping and it's more urgent (i.e. you want to buy), I will get a notification that you emailed so I will look much more quickly. But also you might want others opinions on here too!!
If you let me know you are going shopping tomorrow, I will make sure to log on here earlier in the day. Also, I'm going to look around to give some ideas for your kitchen shades/blinds. Brb
  • 7 years ago
Ok I just wanted to find a before and after picture showing how much better the shades make the windows look. And how much bigger. I think you should outside mount both windows as close to ceiling as possible. That would bring unity to both the windows. And you could even do the light bamboo shades. Nothing too dark in color, but definitely not white....you need something w interest to contrast the white kitchen.

Jordan! A gunman? Omg , are you OK hun? My eyes were hurting trying to scroll through all these post to find your email So I just posted on here. I'll just go with the gray couch and if it doesn't work I could always use it in the playroom not a big deal. I did end up getting curtains. Since I have my friend Nancy coming tomorrow who was the window treatment specialist some years back I figured I get them now so she can help me put them up. I got them at JCPenney. They are white (i'll find a picture and post) with a dark rod with a somewhat decorative fennels (sp?) super excited.

I absolutely love those curtains in the kitchen oh my goodness other so cute! I even love the chandelier but I don't have an island type thing so I don't think that would work in my kitchen but yes to those curtains. I didn't realize how much all of this is going to cost so for now I need to just get those cheap vinyl type blinds and work my way around the house.
These are the type of curtains I got. Similar rod too These are not shiny though this picture has a bit of a sheen on them
  • 7 years ago
Ok I like those curtains. From what I remember they look less heavy than the other ones lol
  • 7 years ago
Yes we were on the underground and some crazy guy w a gun was on there threatening people. It was ridiculous.
And yay so you like the outside mount close to the ceiling for the kitchen windows? I think it will work perfectly.
Hahah fenels. That's cute. Yeah its finials. I looked up fennels and it's like a plant or something. Actually I would just do a black or dark rod w ball finials. Just simple and farmhouse. To me farmhouse isn't overly ornate.
If you love the chandelier, I'm sure you could install one in your kitchen. It would look great. But that's a detail that can wait. If you have 8' ceilings, we will have to find a chandelier that doesn't have a huge drop. Probably a flush chandelier. Lemme find an example pic
  • 7 years ago
Chandelier examples....but again you probably want to focus on the pressing items. Notice I just did a quick google search for these lol
  • 7 years ago
Yes lots of people go w really cheap window treatments until they have the time to decide what they really want. So that might work. Also another thing is you may not even need the temporary privacy in the kitchen? Just a thought....can't tell how visible someone in the kitchen would be to outside
  • 7 years ago
Ok I found a beautiful pattern in blue (the boulangerie) that comes in a Roman shade that I think would look perfect for your kitchen. Attached a pic of a Roman shade just in case you don't know the look. These are from blindsgalore.com....love that site.
And here is a roller shade they have.
But also, I think the bamboo shades would look amazing as well. And perhaps much less expensive!! The ones you saw from menards are a great color for the kitchen too. Outside mount for sure though

Hey Jordan. So the blinds and curtains did not go well yesterday. I have my brothers friend coming out to fix them at 11am today. It's what he does for a living so I figure I'll just have him fix it. Long story but basically my friend who used to do installs like 20+ years ago seemed a bit anxious to install them? Sweet of her to help and try though. I'm trying to move so it's all kind of a world wind. I got the curtains up but it's hard to explain but I don't know how to close them correctly w 4 panels on them because of the hooks. I'll show you a picture tomorrow when I get all situated. If you don't hear from me , it's probably because im messing around with this house. But stay on here! I love your support and you have the best ideas. Here's my email melissalee612@yahoo.com and I'm also on FB melissa Lee hunter
  • 7 years ago
Ok sounds good. I will add you via fb messenger. Also, I understand the issue....I would try only using one of the support brackets in the middle of the rod instead of two. How long is the rod again?
I tried to add you lol and send a message. Let's see if it works.
But yeah, there's often times an unnecessary support bracket included with a curtain rod for certain scenarios....but I do not think you need two. But just to make sure, what's the length of the rod?
I will download messenger now. The length of the rod is 120 or so. The length of my window is 118. I know what she did wrong. She added two on the end, and then two about maybe 20 or so inches away from those two on both ends and then last night when the curtain rod was falling in the middle I added a bracket in the middle. I now realize that the other two were not necessary. Hope that makes sense
  • 7 years ago
Yes you only need one support bracket in the middle. That's what I was trying to say lol. Perfect...that's an easy fix!!
Just some more at better prices. If I'm correct about the ceiling height, you'll need something flush or semi flush. These can work in LR too if same ceiling height. But anyways, this is future thinking lol. Just fun to search ha
  • 7 years ago
Got your messenger accept just FYI it worked lol
